July and August 2008 Rides

Filed under: Uncategorized — Marcia at 1:36 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2008

We have added the July (Dublin Dr. Pepper Museum) and August (East Texas Oil Museum - Kilgore) monthly rides to the calendar.  These rides will leave at 8:00AM to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures.  Please join us for some great roads, fun and friendship.

In July we will ride to Dublin, Texas and visit the Dr. Pepper Museum.  There you will see how Dr. Pepper is made the old fashion way and taste the famous Dublin Dr. Pepper made with real cane sugar.  Lunch will be in Stephenville at the Hard 8 BBQ!  Yum!

Our August ride will be to Kilgore, Texas where we will learn about the oil boom of the 1930’s at the East Texas Oil Museum.  Lunch will be at the Jalepeno Tree.  We will also stop in Grand Saline on the way back to see the Salt Palace.

Keep the rubber on the road and I look forward to seeing on the next ride.

Saturday Ride to Ponder

Filed under: Trip Planning — Marcia at 12:01 pm on Friday, September 29, 2006

Heather will lead a ride to Ponder this Saturday (September 30, 2006). It is about 1 1/2 hours through some very pretty country and some kind, but fun, twisties. Meet Heather at Maxims at 10:30. Since we will be eating at the Ponder Steakhouse. Heather will need an approximate head count, but she can do that from the parking lot.

Hoping for a good chic turn out!!

Grayson County Village Ride

Filed under: Trip Planning — Marcia at 11:51 am on Friday, September 29, 2006

Paula is going to be leading a ride to Grayson County Frontier Village on Sunday, October 1, 2006. The tentative route is up 78 to 160 to 69, but she is still trying to come up with something with a few more curves!
KSU at 9:30 at Maxim Motorsport (with a full tank of gas!!)
The Village is open from 1:00 to 4:00 on Sunday. We’ll do lunch beforehand. There is a Jalapeno Tree in Denison, not far north of the park. There’s one in McKinney and it’s her favorite Mexican restaurant in town.

KSU at 9:30 at Maxim Motorsport will give us 3 1/2 hours for the ride and lunch and, hopefully, we should make it to the Village around 1:00.

Please let Paula know ASAP if you’re going for sure because she won’t be able to check her email after Friday at 3:30. Paula’s cell number is on the listserv.

Here is a description of the village:

Collection of 18 rustic buildings dating from 1840 to 1900 include 1839 log cabin and log schoolhouse with teacher’s sleeping loft; homes and business structures, portable jail lockup, all restored and furnished. Frontier Village Museum exhibits household utensils, antique crystal and enamelware, pioneer clothing, tools and farm machinery. Village on 17 acres in Loy Park open mid-May to Oct. 25 Wed. through Sun. I - 5 p.m. At southwest edge of Denison, Loy Park/ Frontier Village exit 67, U.S. 75 at Loy Lake Road. (903)463-2487.

Hope you can come!

Kerrville

Filed under: Ride Reports — Marcia at 10:11 am on Friday, September 29, 2006

Robert, Heather and Chris had a great trip to Kerrville last weekend with the Iron Dragons. The roads were fabulous. The Iron Dragon girls are down to
earth and friendly. Chris really enjoyed meeting them. Heather and Chris rode down on Friday and Chris had a flat in Hico. Her bike got towed to Cleburne and this entire episode took four hours out of their day. But they made it down there by 10:00 on Friday night. Remind Chris never to ride the Hill Country at night again - it’s overly populated with highway loving deer - and thank God they made it in one piece! She did see three deer running the fence which means there were more out there that she didn’t see! Robert bravely led the way.

They rode the Twisted Sisters, 335, 336 and 337, and those are some great motorcycle riding roads, twisties and hills. Kay Lopez had the entire day planned and they filled it all, went to bed at 10:30 - tired to the bone but smiling.

Robert had a great return trip planned which only consisted of interstate riding from Waxahachie to Dallas. If Kay plans a ride next year, Chris highly
recommends the Leather Chics going.

Crazy Ed’s Maneuverability Lessons

Filed under: Events, Education — Marcia at 8:25 am on Monday, August 14, 2006

via Robbie, Chris & Robert

Date: every Wednesday night in Plano.
Time: people begin showing up around 6:00 – 7:00.

Location: on Lexington street, behind the old Plano Honda building off Parker. If you’re on Parker, go south on Premier (the road behind Plano Honda) and take the first right which is Lexington (across from the road going into Target). Go about a block and a half and on your right is a big parking lot and you’ll see other bikes there.

Updated Location:  The location will be near the corner of 15th and Custer in plano. On the southeast corner is a Starbucks.  The next business south is a Goodyear Tire Center, and the next business south is the parking lot. It used to be an antique mall. This is all on the southeast corner, so it’s almost a 1/2 block south of 15th on Custer. 7pm to approximately 9pm.
The guy who manages the riding is Crazy Ed and [despite his nickname] he’s a very gentle, motorcycle knowledgeable guy. The practice is for all levels, beginners to experts, and we spent the night going in and out of safety cones in different patterns. He also mimics various danger maneuvers motorcyclists have to make to avoid four-wheel vehicles who don’t see motorcycles on the road. It was extremely beneficial and you can go as many times as you want, or just periodically to keep up your skills. It would be very beneficial for all the WOW members to attend. It’s free and very low key. I felt absolutely no stress all night long. ~~Chris

The 3rd Annual Holy Trinity Ride is coming up soon.  This is not a WOW Chapter ride, but it will be lots of fun.  Check out the map

I’ve ridden parts of this route a few years ago and it really is a fabulous ride.

Be sure and let Lynda or Kay know if you want to go.
